What is Ocean Safe Omega-3 oil?

CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega-3 oil is made from derivatives of food grade calamari production. Three species of calamari (squid) can be used: (1) Humboldt Squid, (2) Argentine Shortfin Squid, and (3) Japanese Flying Squid.

How does the omega-3 oil in Ocean Safe Omega-3 differ from that found in fish oil?

The DHA and EPA found in both are identical. However, because the omega-3 oil produced from calamari is particularly high in DHA, the ratio of DHA to EPA is higher than that found in our Omega-3 fish oil.

How much DHA and EPA does Ocean Safe Omega-3 contain?

Two 1,100 mg softgels, the recommended daily serving, contain 1,000 mg of DHA and 100 mg of EPA. Because of their larger size and concentration, two softgels of Ocean Safe Omega-3 contain more DHA+EPA than three softgels of our Omega-3 fish oil.

What makes it sustainable and “ocean safe”?

The rapid growth in demand for ocean-caught fish used for food and fish oil production threatens to deplete stocks below safe levels in coming years. The squid species used in Ocean Safe Omega-3 are not endangered. Moreover, net fishing by large commercial fishing operations results in collateral damage to other species of fish not specifically targeted for fish oil production. Squid, on the other hand, are caught using jig gear resulting in virtually zero bycatch. Jig gear also does not come into contact with the seafloor, so does not damage the delicate ecosystems found there

Does Ocean Safe Omega-3 contain mercury or other contaminants?

Mercury and other contaminants build up in fish with long life spans. Calamari live between one and two years, reaching reproductive age quickly and die after spawning. This short life span minimizes exposure to heavy metals and other contaminants while making stocks easily capable of rapid recovery after catching. CardioTabs Ocean Safe Omega-3 is also molecularly distilled to purify the oil of toxins and pollutants.

Is Ocean Safe Omega-3 enteric coated?

No. We believe that the very high quality of oil used and the citrus berry flavor added to the oil make enteric coating unnecessary.

Does Ocean Safe Omega-3 contain any other ingredients?

Yes. Each softgel contains 200 IU of Vitamin D3. This essential vitamin is responsible for the vitality of every cell and tissue in your body and, thus, is crucial for maintaining overall health.

Because of the added Vitamin D3, is it safe to take Ocean Safe Omega-3 with the CardioDaily multi-vitamin?

Yes. One capsule of CardioDaily contains 2,000 IU of Vitamin D3 and the recommended serving of Ocean Safe Omega-3 contains 400 IU. These amounts are well within safety limits.

Why is Ocean Safe Omega-3 priced the same ($34.95 per bottle) as CardioTabs Omega-3 Fish Oil when there are fewer softgels (120 versus 180, respectively) per bottle?

Because of its larger size and concentration, there is actually more DHA + EPA per recommended serving of Ocean Safe Omega-3. Both products provide 60-days of recommended servings.

What does “Label 100% PCW” on the bottle label mean?

PCW stands for post-consumer waste. To support our efforts toward a green, renewable future, the paper used for the Ocean Safe Omega-3 bottle labels is made from 100% recycled material and printed with environmentally friendly soy ink.
